I actually wanted to comment on this earlier but didn’t have the chance until now.
It was @Adam_Schefter of ESPN that first broke the news that running back Justin Fargas had been cut by the Oakland Raiders on Saturday. Fargas was due a $1.7 million bonus on Monday had he remained on the roster so this wasn’t a big shock.
This was the statement from the @Raiders which could’ve easily been written by the @WWE.
“Justin Fargas was a beloved Raider who performed at a high level throughout his seven seasons with the team,
and his contributions to the Silver and Black will always be remembered. We wish Justin all the best.”
A lot of Raider fans had a strong dislike of Fargas but I was not one of them. I respected him because he always ran his ass off, took an enormous amount of punishment and turned in to a gamer. He gave parts of his body to the team and that’s really all you can ask a guy to do.
Now who will they get to replace him? I’m not sure but they need someone. Darren McFadden can’t stay healthy and Michael Bush seems to spend a lot of time in the dog house for some unknown reasons.

Struck me as a good RB that would be misunderstood by a disfunctional franchise.
So, y’know, lined up rather well.
I’m sure someone will give him a look but he took a lot of punishment and for a running back that’s never good. Like I said, he gave his body for the team and that comes with a price. Statistically he probably would’ve been better off behind a line like New England’s or Baltimore’s over the last 7 seasons but even if that were true I bet the assessment of him would be that he was more a product of the system. In terms of his actual abilities and skill set the Raiders probably got as much out of him as any team was going to on a comparative level. He wasn’t much of a receiver and that wouldn’t have been any different on any other team.
For a third round pick, you could’ve done a lot worse…and they have!
